The Taraba State Government has begun its second phase of gratuities payment to retired civil servants following over ten (10) years of non-payment.
The State Government has mapped out plans to pay the gratuities backlog of 23.6 billion naira, inherited from previous administrations, in an effort to alleviate the sufferings of Pensioners in the State.
The State Head of Civil Service Ahmed Kara said the Governor Agbu Kefas is committed to ensuring that the payment of gratuities backlog is consistent, until all outstanding monies are paid, and plan is underway to also review the pension of retirees to suit the present economic realities.
Kara said the current administration inherited a backlog of 23.6 billion naira, and has so far paid 7.5 billion, adding that the payment of gratuities will be sustained despite the paucity of funds.

639 civil servants who retired in the year 2014 will be the first batch of beneficiaries, from the second tranch of 5 billion naira released by the Taraba State Government to offset the backlog of gratuities, and payment will continue until the fund is exhausted.
The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Finance,Budget and Economic Planning Douglas Kisaba said that due processes have been followed to ensure no eligible retired civil servant is left out.
The retirees appreciated Governor Agbu Kefas for making their welfare a priority and prayed for the success of his Government.
