The Federal Government says it is not satisfied with delays in the execution of Section One of the Zaria–Sokoto dual carriageway project, describing the pace of work as unsatisfactory despite the project’s strategic importance.
The Minister of State for Works, Bello Goronyo, expressed the government’s position during an inspection tour of the Zaria–Funtua–Sheme axis of the road.
The Zaria–Sokoto dual carriageway is a critical federal highway linking Kaduna, Katsina, Zamfara and Sokoto States, and serving as a major economic and security corridor in the North-West. Awarded in 2023 and flagged off in 2024, the project was designed to ease transportation challenges, boost trade and improve safety along the busy route.
During an inspection of Section One of the project, the Minister of State for Works, Bello Goronyo, expressed disappointment that only 17 per cent of the road has been completed more than a year after construction began.
While commending the quality of work carried out so far, the minister stressed that the slow pace of execution falls short of expectations under the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope infrastructure agenda.
The contractor handling the project assured the minister of renewed commitment, promising to accelerate construction.
Minister Goronyo warned that the Federal Government would not hesitate to hold the contractor accountable should the pace of work fail to improve.
