Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu has signed the 2026 Sokoto State Appropriation Bill into law, approving a total budget of ₦758.7 billion for the fiscal year.
Assenting to the bill, the Governor described the 2026 appropriation as a People’s Budget, explaining that it was shaped by inputs from town hall meetings across the state, where citizens’ priorities were gathered ahead of its presentation.
He said the budget reflects a deliberate shift toward development spending, with recurrent expenditure limited to 19 percent of the total outlay, in line with the long-standing fiscal policy that caps recurrent costs below 30 percent of the budget.
Governor Aliyu acknowledged the role of Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko in institutionalising the policy during his tenure, noting that it has helped Sokoto maintain discipline in public finance management.
Commending the Sokoto State House of Assembly for its detailed scrutiny and swift passage of the bill, the Governor cautioned commissioners and heads of ministries, departments, and agencies to strictly operate within the limits of funds appropriated to them.

He noted that priority was given to critical sectors such as security, agriculture, healthcare, water supply, education, and human capital development.
