Senate has confirmed the nomination of Justice Joseph Olubunmi Kayode Oyewole as Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

The confirmation follows consideration and adoption of the report of the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters, presented by its Chairman, Niyi Adegbomire.

Presenting the report, Senator Adegbomire said the committee conducted a thorough screening exercise and deliberated extensively on the nominee’s suitability for appointment to the apex court.

He noted that the committee found that the nomination satisfied the provisions of Section 231(2) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as well as the Senate Standing Orders, 2023.

According to the report, Justice Oyewole possesses the requisite qualifications, with over 23 years of judicial experience on the bench, in addition to the leadership qualities and professional comportment required to discharge the duties of a Justice of the Supreme Court.

The committee also confirmed that no petition was received against the nominee and that security checks and other investigations did not reveal any adverse reports.

Senator Adegbomire added that the committee was satisfied with the nominee’s competence, integrity, experience, and overall suitability for the position, describing him as a fit and proper person for appointment as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

Following deliberations, the Senate unanimously confirmed the nomination of Justice Joseph Olubunmi Kayode Oyewole as Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
