Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia, has immortalised the late General Murtala Mohammed and other prominent past leaders of the state.
The Governor made the declaration during a broadcast to mark the Golden Jubilee of the state at Government House, Makurdi.
Created on the 3rd of February 1976, Benue State, the country’s food basket has had its ups and downs which the State Governor Hyacinth Alia evaluates 50 years after, saying he will build on the past to move the State to an enviable height.
Alia chooses to focus on not just how far the State has come but where it is going and how determined it is to get there.
While recognising its past leaders, the chief executive reflected on the journey so far. He highlights deliberate steps taken by his administration in the various sectors of the economy and some challenges his administration remains committed to overcoming.
Alia insists that the next chapter of Benue State will be defined by a resilient economy, stronger institutions, peace and secure communities as well as leaders who listen, learn and act.
He explained that the day marks the beginning of the celebration which will run throughout the year involving all the leaders and citizens of the State across partisan divides.
Meanwhile, activities marking the 50th anniversary of the creation of Ogun State continued with an interfaith thanksgiving and prayer session held at the Arcade Ground, Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
The event drew a distinguished audience, including former President Olusegun Obasanjo, former Governor Olusegun Osoba, past military administrators, traditional rulers, and other eminent sons and daughters of the state.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Dapo Abiodun said Ogun State had recorded remarkable progress over the past five decades, particularly in education, housing, healthcare, agriculture, and other key sectors of the economy.
According to him, Ogun State is now one of the fastest-growing economies in Nigeria, with an estimated value of N17 trillion.
