In a bid to curb the rising number of road accidents, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), in collaboration with the Kogi State Government, has taken its safety awareness campaign to churches across the state.
The initiative Wants worshippers to obey traffic regulations and adopt safe driving habits before taking to the roads.
Officials say many road crashes are caused by human error, stressing that reducing accidents will require collective responsibility from both drivers and pedestrians.
In 2025, Nigeria recorded 10,446 road traffic crashes, representing a 9.2 percent increase compared to 2024, according to figures released by the Federal Road Safety Corps.
Despite the rise in crashes, fatalities dropped by 2.4 percent to 5,289, while the number of injured persons increased by 7.2 percent to 33,400.
Overspeeding, reckless driving, poor vehicle maintenance, driver fatigue, distraction while driving, and low awareness of road safety rules remain major contributors to accidents across the country.
Recognizing the influence of faith-based institutions in shaping behavior, officials say churches provide a strategic platform to reach motorists.
Authorities insist that road crashes are not inevitable, warning that stricter enforcement awaits anyone found violating traffic regulations.
