An Arik Air Boeing 737 aircraft has safely diverted to Benin Airport following an engine anomaly.

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) confirmed that the aircraft, with registration number 5N-MJF, was operating a scheduled flight from Lagos to Port Harcourt when the incident occurred.
In a statement signed by the Director of Public Affairs and Family Assistance of the NSIB, Bimbo Olawumi Oladeji, the Bureau noted that the crew detected abnormal engine indications during the cruise phase of the flight and, in line with standard safety procedures, carried out a precautionary engine shutdown before diverting to the nearest suitable airport in Benin.

The aircraft landed safely without incident, and all passengers and crew disembarked normally. No injuries were reported.
However, preliminary observations at the airport indicate significant damage to the affected engine based on an initial visual assessment.
The NSIB says it has commenced a full investigation in line with international aviation standards under ICAO Annex 13 and relevant Nigerian regulations. A preliminary assessment team has also been deployed to Benin to secure the aircraft, document evidence, interview relevant personnel and witnesses, as well as recover flight data and cockpit voice recorder information.
A preliminary report is expected within thirty days, while a final report will be released at the conclusion of the investigation.
The NSIB assured the public that passenger safety remains its highest priority and encouraged anyone with relevant information to contact the Bureau through its official channels.
