The Presidency has thrown its weight behind efforts to curb rising social vices in Nigerian schools.
At a meeting at the State House, Abuja on Thursday, the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, assured members of the Special Committee on Campaign Against Social Vices in Secondary and Tertiary Institutions of the Federal Government’s full support, describing their assignment as critical to the nation’s future.
He warned that cultism, drug abuse, examination malpractice and cybercrime among students, now pose a growing national concern, stressing that safeguarding the moral foundation of young Nigerians is key to sustaining ongoing government reforms.

As a demonstration of commitment, he announced a ₦50 million seed donation to the Committee’s work, with ₦25 million to be released immediately, and pledged continued institutional backing.
In his remarks, Committee Chairman, Professor Jerry Ugokwe, said the body has moved from policy to action, holding engagements in Edo and Kwara States as part of its nationwide campaign.
He added that the Committee is working toward a grand national launch in Abuja, aimed at strengthening discipline, improving student welfare and reinforcing campus security across institutions.
