The Wife of the Sokoto State Governor, Hajiya Fatima Ahmed Aliyu, has outlined government-supported programmes targeting women’s economic activities and access to healthcare in the state.
She spoke at a breaking of fast event for women in Sokoto, where she said beneficiaries of the programmes include women engaged in small and medium-scale enterprises who have received financial support through the Sokoto State Microfinance Development Agency.
According to her, women involved in food processing activities, including rice, millet, soybeans and beans, were recently provided with tools and cash assistance to support their businesses.
She also said the Ministry for Women and Children Affairs has carried out skills training programmes covering hairdressing, tailoring, weaving, knitting, bakery, sewing, and cosmetic production, noting that similar programmes are scheduled to continue this year.

On healthcare delivery, she said some primary healthcare centres across the state have undergone renovation to improve access to basic services at the community level.
She added that government health interventions include antenatal care services for pregnant women and children, with ongoing sensitisation efforts in rural areas.
The State Commissioner for Women and Children Affairs, Hajiya Hadiza Shagari, also addressed the gathering, speaking on programmes under the ministry related to women and children.
