The Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has been advised to shun the plan of establishing a Disarmament, Rehabilitation and Reintegration (DRR) camp in the state arguing that if priorities are to be made in this regard, the people would prefer the reconstruction of homes destroyed by the terrorists and the return of people who were and are continuously being displaced to their ancestral lands.
The Concerned Benue Democrats made the call during a press conference in Makurdi the State capital where they equally faulted the Vice President Kashim Shettima for recently putting the weight of resolving the Benue All Progressives Congress leadership crisis on the shoulders of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume.
Vice President Kashima’s recent attempt to wade into the impasse between the Secretary to the Government Of the Federation George Akume and the State Governor Hyacinth Alia still came under scrutiny.
This time this pressure group identified as concerned Benue democrats have differed with the Vice President arguing that such interventions tend to project the Secretary to the Government Of the Federation as the aggressor in the crisis rocking the ruling All Progressives Congress in the State.
The group says it is out to set the records straight by correcting mischievous misrepresentation of facts.
The pressure group also wondered if the Vice President can render the same kind of advice he gave to the SGF to a personality like the FCT minister Nyesom Wike.
While emphasizing that it is not against the mediation efforts of the Vice President to restore peace to the State and the All Progressives Congress, the group suggests closed door sessions with the two Benue leaders.
The pressure group also called on the State Governor to ditch the plans to establish a disarmament rehabilitation and reintegration centre in the State.
Recall that at the progressives Governor’s forum renewed hope ambassadors strategic summit on Tuesday in Abuja, the Vice President Kashim Shettima had appealed to the Secretary to the Government Of the Federation, George Akume to extend an olive branch to the State Governor Hyacinth Alia and give peace a chance, a request that has continued to generate mixed reaction.
