Leaders of Islamic and Christian faith have called for deeper unity among Nigerians as both faiths observe fasting simultaneously.
The call was made at an interfaith gathering held in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
The convergence of both the Christian Lenten and the Muslim Ramadan season has been described by some religious clerics as a rare spiritual alignment meant to reinforce peace, reflection, and national cohesion.
At an interfaith programme, some clerics from both religious inclinations emphasized that the period should not only be seen as a time of personal devotion but also as an opportunity for collective healing and dialogue in a nation often challenged by religious and ethnic divisions.

The organizer said the overlapping fasts present a unique opportunity for interfaith collaboration through joint prayers, charity initiatives, and community outreach programmes aimed at strengthening social harmony.
As Christians and Muslims continue their spiritual observance in the coming weeks, many hope the message of unity preached in Abeokuta will resonate across the country, fostering peaceful coexistence beyond the fasting period.
