The government of Poland has expressed a strong interest in expanding trade, technology and academic cooperation with Nigeria, describing the current level of economic engagement between both countries as significantly below its potential.
The call was made at a high level forum on diplomatic and economic relations at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs in Lagos.
Speaking at the event, Poland’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Michal Cygan, said that although bilateral relations between the two countries date back to 1962, economic cooperation remains largely untapped.
He noted that while Poland operates a US$1 trillion economy, only about 1% of its total trade, roughly US$10 billion goes to Africa, with approximately US$1 billion linked to Nigeria, describing the figures as a clear indication of a vast untapped opportunity.
