Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Nyesom Wike, says the provision of engineering infrastructure will soon commence in the newly created Waru-Pozema District and other emerging districts as part of efforts to accelerate development in the area.

Speaking shortly after inspecting ongoing road projects across Abuja, the Minister explained that it is the intention of government to ensure that roads and other basic infrastructure are put in place to enable residents move in and begin developing their plots.

Meanwhile, Wike, has expressed satisfaction with the progress of work on the Judges Quarters and other ongoing major infrastructure projects across the Abuja city centre.

The Minister made his feelings known while addressing journalists shortly after an inspection visit to the Judges Quarters in Katampe District and other ongoing projects, including the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal in Dakibiyu, Road CN2 in Katampe/Gishiri, and the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX) main carriageways. The visit was aimed at ensuring that contractors remain on schedule for the upcoming celebration of President Bola Tinubu’s third anniversary in office.

Speaking on the observed progress, Wike said the contractor handling the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal has committed to handing over the facility by May 2026, while work on the expansive Judges quarters in Katampe, which includes 10 duplexes for the Federal High Court, 20 for the FCT High Court, and 10 for the Court of Appeal was almost completed.

The Minister further explained that the Federal High Court section of the Judges quarters was currently being furnished, adding that the entire project was slated for official inauguration during the President’s third-year in office celebrations.

Wike equally commended the progress of work on the Katampe Ring Road and the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX) carriageways and particularly lauded the construction firm, CGC for its dedication, describing the company as reliable. He also praised the Federal Capital Development Authority, FCDA for their diligent supervision of the works.

He said, “I’m very much impressed with what the CGC is doing. It’s one of those companies that when they give you their words, you can go to the bank with it. I’m also impressed with the way the FCDA has supervised the job to this level”.

Asked why he did not consider taking a break, following the rigorous thank-you tour of the six area Ccouncils, the Minister, emphasised that his motivation stems from a deep sense of service to the country and the unwavering support provided by President Tinubu. He said that the President’s confidence in his administration demands total commitment to the transformation of the nation’s capital.

“For the President to have confidence in you and give you an assignment like this, you have no choice but to be committed to the job. It is very important for anybody to represent Mr. President in the FCT. The motivation is because Mr. President has given us the necessary support”, Barr. Wike stressed.

Speaking on the political developments within the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, the Minister welcomed the prospects of reconciliation between the various factions but emphasised that sincere unity must precede any meaningful reconciliation.

He said, “The first thing is to be united and then you now talk about the next step. Everybody has said reconciliation; if indeed we are truly sincere in reconciling, obviously, we have chances. But for me, the first thing now is to make sure the party is united”.

The Minister also reflected on the party’s recent performance in the FCT council elections, where he said the party defied expectations by securing 17 seats, including the strategically important Gwagwalada Area Council and maintained that the focus must remain on strengthening the party’s internal cohesion.

He added that further steps regarding the party’s future would be determined following the national convention scheduled for the 29th and 30th of March this year.
