Edo State Ministry of Education has expressed deep concern over a disturbing video circulating on social media showing a student physically assaulting and bullying another student at Igbinedion Education Centre in Benin City.
In a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Edith Ebomoyi, the state government strongly condemned the act of violence, describing it as unacceptable and contrary to the values of discipline, respect and safety expected in schools across Edo State.
The Ministry stressed that the safety and well-being of students remain a top priority of the Edo State Government, assuring parents and the public that decisive steps are being taken to address the situation.
According to the statement, the Ministry has constituted a five-man investigative committee to thoroughly probe the incident and unravel the circumstances surrounding the assault.

The committee has also been mandated to identify all students found culpable, with a view to ensuring that appropriate disciplinary measures are taken in line with regulations guiding conduct in schools within the state.
Meanwhile, management of Igbinedion Education Centre says the students involved in the bullying and physical assault have been expelled following an internal investigation by the school.
The school described the behaviour as disturbing and a violation of its zero-tolerance policy against bullying, cultism, intimidation, harassment and other forms of violence, adding that support is being provided to affected students while the matter has been reported to the appropriate authorities.
Both the Ministry of Education and the school management assured parents and guardians that necessary measures are being taken to ensure justice and prevent a recurrence of such incidents, while further updates will be provided at the conclusion of the investigation.
