A human rights lawsuit has been filed at a Federal High Court in Benin, by broadcaster, and media entrepreneur, Pedro Agbonifo Obaseki, also known as Don Pedro over an alleged case of abduction and public humiliation in Benin City.

In the suit, Obaseki is demanding ₦500 million as general and exemplary damages from 11 individuals, alongside the State Security Services, SSS and the Attorney-General of the Federation, AGF.

According to court filings, by the law firm of human rights lawyer Femi Falana, SAN, the case was brought under several constitutional provisions, including sections covering the right to life, dignity, personal liberty, and privacy, as well as regional human rights protections under the African Charter.

Obaseki claimed he was seized by armed men while engaging in a leisure activity in Benin City, an incident that reportedly took place on December 28, 2025.

Obaseki also maintained that he was subsequently taken to a police station, where he was held for about five hours without legal justification, an action he described as a clear breach of his fundamental rights.

Falana’s legal team has also confirmed that separate criminal proceedings connected to the incident have been initiated through appropriate legal channels.
