The Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command Baba Azare has reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police to the welfare of families of officers who died in the line of duty.

Azare stated this in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital during activities marking the 2026 National Police Day.

The Commissioner of Police, Baba Azare, presented cheques totaling more than fifty-three point seven million naira to thirty-four families of fallen officers.

The presentation took place during the ongoing Police Week celebration and was carried out on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu.

Addressing the beneficiaries, the Commissioner described the ceremony as both solemn and significant, noting that it serves as a reminder of the ultimate sacrifices made by officers who laid down their lives in service to the nation.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to supporting the families left behind.

CP Azare also commended the Inspector-General for prioritizing personnel welfare, including the prompt payment of benefits and the strengthening of support systems for officers and their dependents.

He further urged serving personnel to honour their fallen colleagues by demonstrating dedication, professionalism, and commitment to service.

The Commissioner also led a public sensitization campaign at Itam Market, one of the busiest commercial centers in the state, on promoting civic responsibility ahead of the coming electoral season, with key messages urging citizens to say no to electoral violence and to strictly obey road traffic rules.

Police authorities say the initiative is aimed at fostering peace, safety, and responsible citizenship across the state.
