Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, says the current state of the country demands fresh ideas to tackle growing developmental challenges, especially as disparities persist between regions with advanced infrastructure and those still lagging behind.
The Governor, represented by his Deputy, Dennis Idahosa, made this known at a three-day retreat for the Ministry of Regional Development and Regional Development Commissions in Benin City.
Participants from the six geopolitical zones gathered in Benin city for the retreat with the theme “Generating Fresh Ideas to Unlock the Potentials of the Regions.” The programme focuses on developing innovative strategies to drive inclusive growth and bridge regional gaps.
Representing the Edo State Governor, his deputy Dennis Idahosa, appearing at an official function for the first time since the death of his mother, expressed optimism that the retreat would produce a clear national framework for balanced regional development.
Minister of Regional Development, Abubakar Momoh, who convened the retreat, urged stakeholders to embrace new thinking, strengthen collaboration, and act with urgency to address regional challenges and unlock growth opportunities across the country.
The retreat is expected to end with recommendations that will guide policies and programmes aimed at achieving sustainable development across all regions.
