Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to youth empowerment and self-reliance.
The Governor gave the assurance in Lafia during the graduation ceremony of 200 trainees in nine different skill areas at the Wing Commander Abdullahi Ibrahim Vocational and Technology Institute.
The training programme is sponsored by the Nasarawa State Government in partnership with the African Union Development Agency, the implementing arm of the African Union which was established to coordinate regional projects, promote economic integration, and accelerate the realization of Agenda 2063, aimed at eradicating poverty across Africa.
Governor Sule who noted that the state government remains open to supporting initiatives from corporate organizations and individuals that promote self-reliance among citizens, commended the graduands for their dedication and urged them to apply the skills acquired to become employers of labour rather than job seekers.
The State Commissioner for Finance, Budget, and Economic Planning, Munira Abdullahi; a representative of the National Coordinator of AUDA-NEPAD; and the Executive Director of the institute, all emphasized the administration’s prioritisation of youth development, describing the training of 200 youths as a starting point for broader empowerment efforts.
The empowerment programme focuses on equipping participants with practical skills in areas such as welding, tailoring, pastry making, and hairdressing.
Beneficiaries of the programme were provided with starter packs to help them establish their own businesses and become financially independent.
