Cross River State Government has dismissed a report alleging that 10 more persons with Covid-19 symptoms have been identified in the state, describing the claim as inaccurate and misleading.
The State Ministry of Health clarified that Cross River State currently has only one confirmed case of Covid-19, as announced during a media briefing held in Calabar on Wednesday, with no additional confirmed cases recorded.
Commissioner for Health, Dr. Henry Egbe Ayuk, stated that the 10 individuals referenced are contacts of the confirmed case, identified through routine contact tracing. He noted that none of them has tested positive or is exhibiting symptoms associated with the virus.
He explained that the individuals have been placed under home isolation and are being monitored by health officials as part of standard preventive measures.
The Ministry emphasised that contacts are not classified as suspected or confirmed cases unless they develop symptoms or return a positive test result, adding that no such situation has arisen.
While reaffirming its commitment to transparency, the government advised the public to rely on official information from the Ministry of Health and disregard unverified reports.
