The Edo State Government has distanced itself from a viral video in which one Emmanuel Akpan, popularly known as Egogo, issued threats against members of opposition political parties in the state.
Addressing journalists at a press conference in Benin City, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Kassim Afegbua, clarified that the comments made in the video do not reflect the position of the government.
Afegbua emphasized that Governor Monday Okpebholo does not condone any form of gangsterism, political intimidation, or hooliganism, stressing that the administration remains committed to democratic values and peaceful political engagement.
Afegbua described the remarks by Egogo as purely personal, noting that the individual does not speak for, nor represent, the Edo State Government in any capacity.
The government spokesperson also disclosed that, the Okpebholo-led administration has signed an agreement with a Chinese firm for the production of 10 million metric tonnes of cement in the Owan axis of Edo State.
On E-governance, Afegbua revealed that the system has been completely retooled and upgraded with new cloud-based platforms to drive governance in the state.
According to him, ministries, departments, and agencies are currently being on boarded to enhance efficiency, promote transparency, and reduce paperwork.
He added that the new platform is more interactive and advanced than the one used by the previous administration.
The Commissioner further highlighted a wide range of achievements recorded by the Okpebholo administration over the past one year and five months, noting significant progress across key sectors.
