President Bola Tinubu has appointed Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu as Nigeria’s new Minister of Foreign Affairs, following the resignation of Yusuf Tuggar, who stepped down to pursue political ambitions ahead of the 2027 elections.
Odumegwu-Ojukwu, who previously served as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, is expected to take over leadership of the ministry as the administration moves to strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic engagement globally.
According to a statement by presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, the President also nominated Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, subject to confirmation by the Senate.
Until his nomination, Enikanolaiye served as Senior Special Assistant, SSA to the President on Foreign Affairs and International Relations, bringing with him over three decades of experience in Nigeria’s foreign service.
The nominee has held several key diplomatic positions, including postings in Addis Ababa, Belgrade, Ottawa, London, and New Delhi, and also served as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
President Tinubu says the appointments are part of efforts to reposition Nigeria’s foreign policy architecture for greater efficiency, strategic engagement, and stronger global partnerships.
He urged the appointees to advance Nigeria’s national interest, deepen economic diplomacy, and promote regional stability while safeguarding the welfare of Nigerians at home and abroad.
