The wife of the President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has flagged off the 2026 farming season with the distribution of agricultural mechanisation equipment to farmers across 25 local government areas of Niger state.
Tinubu also used the medium to advocate a deliberate shift from subsistence farming to modern, mechanised, and commercially viable agriculture, aligning with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Flagging off the distribution of the mechanised agricultural items at the Bola Tinubu International Airport, Senator Oluremi Tinubu said the intervention will significantly empower farmers, improve productivity, enhance livelihoods, and contribute to national economic growth through increased agricultural output.
Tinubu further added that the event was a bold statement that Nigeria is ready to feed herself and that it is also a deliberate transition from subsistence practices to modern, mechanised and commercially viable agriculture.
For the Niger State government, the programme is part of the administration’s plan to cultivate over 120,000 hectares of farmland, projecting that the initiative will generate about 3,000 jobs and yield an estimated 500,000 tons of assorted food crops annually through both wet and dry season farming.
The inaugurated implements were 250 tractors, 50 combined harvesters, 150,000 bags of fertiliser, 1,500 planters, ploughs, boom sprayers, and harrows.
