Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC has announced the zoning of its presidential ticket to the southern region of the country ahead of the 2027 general election.
The decision was taken at the party’s first national convention, which was held in Abuja with party leaders pledging to offer a credible alternative and deepen democratic engagement in the country.
The ratification of the decision followed a motion moved by Victor Umeh, which received overwhelming support from delegates at the convention.
NDC National Chairman, Moses Cleopas, formally declared the convention open at exactly 1:47 p.m., describing the gathering as a defining moment in the party’s evolution.
The event drew prominent political figures including Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, alongside former governors as well as serving and former members of the National Assembly.

He stressed the party’s commitment to democratic justice and encouraged Nigerians to actively participate in the democratic process, despite prevailing challenges.
He said party leaders in NDC have refused to surrender to what they described as growing political frustration in the country, insisting that the party remains determined to provide a viable alternative.
NDC called on Nigerians to stand firm, expressing concern over rising hardship, unemployment, and insecurity across the country.
The party also pledged to play the role of a responsible opposition, focusing on issue-based politics and policies that promote national progress.
