The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has granted waivers to former Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, and former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Victor Ochei, clearing the way for both politicians to contest senatorial seats in the 2027 general elections under the party’s platform.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the party said Omo-Agege will contest for the Delta Central Senatorial seat, while Ochei is set to run for Delta North, following their recent defection from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The NDC leadership said the waivers were approved in recognition of the duo’s political experience, leadership capacity, and commitment to democratic ideals, expressing confidence in their ability to deliver quality representation.

The party also used the opportunity to reaffirm its commitment to transparency and internal democracy, as it issued a strong warning against attempts to sideline aspirants in its ongoing primaries.
In a separate statement, the NDC said it had received reports that some aspirants were being prevented from participating in the exercise, stressing that all candidates who successfully passed the screening process remain eligible to contest.
The party declared that any action by officials at any level to block cleared aspirants is “null and void,” and will not be tolerated.
It further directed all party structures nationwide to ensure that the primaries are conducted peacefully, transparently, and in strict compliance with party guidelines.
