The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has dissociated itself from a planned affirmation of the Candidacy of former President Goodluck Jonathan for the 2027 general elections, asking the former President to publicly dissociate himself from what it calls charade in order to protect the integrity of the democratic process and preserve the credibility he earned while serving the nation.
The party in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed also calls on relevant security agencies to swiftly investigate the source of the reports and take appropriate action against the perpetrators.
The Party insists that no such convention, meeting, or process has been scheduled, approved or endorsed by its leadership or any recognised organ of the Peoples Democratic Party as it urges all party faithful, supporters, stakeholders and the public to disregard such information, as it is misleading, unauthorised, and intended to create confusion within the polity.
The PDP says it has successfully concluded all its primary elections, including those for Governorship, State Houses of Assembly, National Assembly, and the Presidential election primaries in accordance with INEC guidelines, the provisions of the Electoral Act and the Constitution of the Party and its excersie was supervised by INEC.
Meanwhile, the faction of the Peoples Democratic Party led by its interm Chairman, Tanimu Turaki has alleged intimidation and abuse of power ahead of Saturday’s planned convention to affirm former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan as the party’s presidential candidate.

The Faction accused the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, of threatening to shut down the venue designated for the event.
In a statement issued by the Faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, the faction claims that the management of A Class Event Centre in Wuse 2, Abuja, the venue it has scheduled for the affirmation of former President Goodluck Jonathan, informed them of alleged threats from the FCT Minister over the planned gathering.
The faction states that it had fully paid for the venue and had also notified relevant security agencies about the event.
According to the statement, the party had directed its Lawyers to formally remind the management of the event centre of the contractual agreement already reached.
It insisted that despite the alleged intimidation, the special convention to ratify Jonathan’s candidature would proceed as scheduled on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at the A Class Event Centre, Wuse 2, Abuja, by 10 a.m.
The faction also took a swipe at President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, alleging that actions of government officials were beginning to portray tendencies associated with authoritarian rule.
The group further argued that the FCT Minister had no legal authority to determine which political events should be held or where they should take place.
