The federal government says over 500 Nigerians in South Africa have been cleared for evacuation, with screening extended to June 10. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has also approved five Air Peace flights, with the first carrying about 270 passengers set to leave Johannesburg on Monday.
Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, confirmed on Thursday, June 4, 2026, that the screening exercise, being coordinated by Nigeria’s Mission in Pretoria, will now continue until Wednesday, June 10, 2026.
“The departure time and estimated time of arrival in Lagos, Nigeria, will be communicated once updates are received from our High Commission in South Africa,” Ebienfa stated.
The Ministry reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring the safe and orderly return of Nigerians who wish to come home.
