The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, has taken significant steps towards strengthening its internal structure and promoting institutional discipline within the party.
This follows resolutions reached at the party’s second National Executive Committee, NEC, meeting, where leaders reaffirmed their commitment to building a strong and enduring political institution anchored on party supremacy.
In a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, the party emphasized that all policies, programmes and appointments by governments elected on its platform must be carried out in consultation with party structures, stressing that members must align personal interests with that of the party.
He said the NEC also resolved that all affiliated groups and non-governmental organisations linked to the party must operate under its guidance and not function independently.
As part of efforts to instill discipline, the party according to him, announced plans to introduce a comprehensive Code of Conduct for all officials and candidates, with a committee led by the National Legal Adviser already set up to develop the framework.
In addition, a National Reconciliation Committee has been inaugurated to address grievances and foster unity among members.
The NDC further stated that it is committed to building an institution-driven party rather than a personality-based movement, urging members to remain dedicated to its long-term growth and sustainability.
On financial accountability, the party said strict measures would be enforced to ensure transparency in the management of party funds, including mandatory disclosure of campaign finances by candidates at all levels through designated party accounts.
The party maintained that total allegiance to its ideals and the national interest remains paramount for all members and aspirants.
