Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara is urging the political class in Nigeria to go beyond the ritual of elections and politicking to responsible and accountable leadership
Speaking at an event to celebrate June 12, Lawal said democracy will have no value to the people without governance that meets the needs of the people.
AIT’s correspondent reports that democracy day in Zamfara was marked with a showcase of the Lawal administration’s milestones over the past three years.
For the first time since taking office three years ago, Governor Dauda Lawal hosted a dedicated ceremony to mark Democracy Day.
A major highlight of the celebration was the official opening of a brand-new seven-hundred-seat arena.

Governor Lawal detailed his administration’s progress across critical sectors, saying democracy should mean more than just elections.
He focused heavily on security, which remains the state’s biggest hurdle and vowed to sustain the onslaught against criminal elements.

The administration’s efforts continue to draw recognition from key stakeholders. The Emir of Kaura Namoda, Sanusi Muhammad Asha, led other traditional rulers to endorse the governor’s developmental projects.
As the celebrations wrapped up, the overarching message was hope. Leaders urged citizens to stay resilient through current national hardships, promising that better days lie ahead.
