Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has called on residents to play a more active role in protecting their communities.
Launching the “Unite Against Terror” campaign in a statewide broadcast, the Governor says defeating terrorism requires vigilance, cooperation and a united front.
Governor Inuwa Yahaya says although Gombe remains one of the most peaceful states in the North-East, emerging security threats demand greater public vigilance.
He described insecurity as the biggest threat to Nigeria’s development and commended the Armed Forces, Police, DSS, Civil Defence and other security agencies for their sacrifices in protecting lives and property.
The Governor highlighted key security initiatives introduced by his administration, including the Ministry of Internal Security and Internal Affairs, GOSTEC, Operation Hattara and support for community vigilante groups.
He said intelligence from residents remains critical in preventing crime and urged citizens to promptly report suspicious movements and activities.
Governor Inuwa Yahaya also reaffirmed his commitment, as Chairman of the Northern States Governors’ Forum, to strengthening regional cooperation against criminal elements.
He called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth and community groups to support the “Unite Against Terror” campaign, stressing that lasting peace can only be achieved through collective responsibility and sustained support for security agencies.
