The African Democratic Congress, ADC has staged a protest to the Court of Appeal against Justice Peter Lifu over what they described as a “highly controversial ruling” ordering the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC to deregister the ADC and four other political parties.
The protesters, who matched from the Party’s National Secretariat in Wuse 2, to the Federal High Court, Maitama, Abuja were led by the youth’s wing of the opposition party, chanting and carrying placards with inscriptions that “Justice Lifu Must Go” and “No one-party state”
Addressing the media during the protest, the ADC members insisted that they will not relent in their pursuit through legal and peaceful means to ensure that ADC and other de-registered opposition parties are on the ballot for the 2027 general election.
They called on the former Heads of State and Presidents – Olusegun Obasanjo, General Abdulsalam Abubakar, General Ibrahim Babangida and former President Goodluck Jonathan, not to fold their arms while the current administration is working to impose a one-party state in Nigeria.
The ADC further revealed that a petition had been written and submitted to the National Judicial Commission, NJC against Justice Lifu weeks ago for proceeding with the judgment against the opposition ADC despite a binding Court of Appeal order that explicitly stayed proceedings on the matter, describing the move as a means to subvert the sacred doctrine of stare decisions and constitutes gross misconduct.
The protesting opposition Party members however noted that the NJC is yet to respond or implement their demands , adding that they will continue to hit the streets until the needful is done to stop nigeria from fallen into one-party State system.
