Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has approved a major restructuring of the state’s security architecture with the appointment of a new Coordinator for Operation Rainbow, the redeployment of the Coordinator of the Safe School Programme, and the appointment of a new Special Adviser on Security.
The appointments, announced in a statement by the Secretary to the Plateau State Government, Samuel Jatau, take immediate effect.
Brigadier-General Nash Yakubu (Rtd) has been appointed as the new Coordinator of Operation Rainbow, which Plateau State’s homegrown security outfit.
General Yakubu served in the Nigerian Army for 35 years, participating in several local and international operations, including peacekeeping missions in Sierra Leone and Sudan, as well as counter-insurgency operations in Nigeria’s North-East.
Also appointed is Brigadier-General Gakji Shipi Goshwe (Rtd), who has been redeployed as Coordinator of the Safe School Programme. He previously served as Acting Coordinator of Operation Rainbow and Special Adviser to the Governor on Security.
Governor Mutfwang also approved the appointment of Major-General Bala A. Isandu (Rtd) as Special Adviser on Security. Before his appointment, he served as Senior Special Assistant on Intelligence to the Minister of Defence and held key positions at the Defence Intelligence Agency, DIA.
The Plateau State Government says the appointments are aimed at strengthening the state’s security framework, improving the protection of lives and property, and enhancing security in schools across the state.
Governor Mutfwang congratulated the appointees and expressed confidence in their experience and professionalism, urging them to justify the confidence reposed in them by working diligently to advance the administration’s vision of a peaceful, secure, and prosperous Plateau State.
