Nigeria and the World Food Programme, WFP, of the United Nations have agreed to deepen cooperation to tackle food insecurity, strengthen humanitarian response, and build long-term community resilience.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and WFP Country Representative in Nigeria, Katrien Ghoos, reached the agreement as Ghoos presented her Letter of Commission at Tafawa Balewa House in Abuja on Wednesday.
Ambassador Odumegwu-Ojukwu commended WFP for its continued support to vulnerable populations across Nigeria.
She said the organisation has been critical in complementing Federal Government efforts to improve food security, strengthen resilience, and promote sustainable livelihoods.
The Minister reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to working closely with WFP and other partners to address the root causes of food insecurity through coordinated humanitarian and development action.
In her remarks, Ghoos reaffirmed WFP’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s food security and sustainable development goals.
She commended the Federal Government’s collaboration and pledged WFP’s readiness to deepen work with relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies to deliver impactful programmes nationwide.
Both sides also discussed stronger institutional collaboration, better coordination in humanitarian response, and innovative approaches to nutrition and resilience for vulnerable communities.
