Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has given the 2027 presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Peter Obi, a seven-day ultimatum to publicly apologise to airport officials and pay a ₦25,000 fine over the alleged wrongful parking of his vehicle at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, the nation’s capital.

Keyamo issued the ultimatum after ordering an internal investigation into Obi’s claim that the clamping of his vehicle’s tyres at the airport was part of what he described as a “persecution agenda” by the Federal Government. The minister in a post on X, said the attached CCTV footage from the airport showed that a police officer who drove Obi to the airport on Saturday, July 4th, 2026 at 20:28pm, left the vehicle unattended in a designated drop-off zone for about 30 minutes before airport security officials clamped its tyres in line with security procedures.

According to the minister, the footage also showed that Obi later contacted the airport manager by phone, after which the vehicle was released without payment of the stipulated fine. Keyamo maintained that no airport official targeted Obi, insisting that the enforcement action was carried out before security personnel knew who owned the vehicle.

He has now demanded that Obi publicly apologise to airport workers for what he described as false allegations against them and voluntarily return to pay the parking violation fine, warning that the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, would be directed to take further action if the demands are not met within one week.

The ultimatum follows comments made by Obi during an interview on the With Chude podcast, where he alleged that his vehicle was clamped while he stood nearby, despite other vehicles parked in the same area not being sanctioned. Obi cited the incident as one of several examples of what he described as persistent harassment and persecution by the Federal Government.
