Nigerian government is establishing fish villages and integrated poultry clusters across the country, aimed at optimising the potential of the sub-sector.
Speaking at a media conference in Abuja, the Executive Secretary of the National Agriculture Land Development Authority, NALDA, Collinus Adebayo said the move is one of the strategies lined up for Agriculture development by the President Tinubu administration, to boost food production and fast track food security.
In developing countries like Nigeria, Agriculture development involves expanding and improving the value chain, adopting modern technology, and minimising massive post-harvest waste, to ensure sustainable economic growth. The repositioning of the sector has initiated the establishment of fish villages, creating opportunities for fish farmers to grow and produce more fishes for both local and export purposes.
The Executive Secretary also outlined the Authority’s strategy for transforming degraded forest reserves and grazing areas into productive agriculture assets.

The National integrated farm estates are also in progress across the country, including a flagship facility in Katsina State with a capacity for over 400,000 birds.
NALDA has called on state governments to allocate suitable land for agricultural development, saying it is essential for protecting public investment and expanding commercial agriculture across the country.
