A claimant to the presidential candidacy of the Accord Party, Gbenga Hashim: the Presidential camdidates of the African Action Congress, Omoyele Sowore; and that of the Social Democratic Party, Adewole Adebayo, have resolved to explore a common democratic front ahead of the 2027 polls.
The trio met in Port Harcourt, Rivers State on Southern Nigeria on Saturday, August 15, 2026, to deliberate on the state of the nation’s democracy, economy, and security.
They expressed deep concern over weakened democratic institutions and a shrinking space for genuine political competitions.
The leaders described their proposed alliance as an opportunity to unite workers, youths, women, professionals, entrepreneurs, civil society organizations, and Nigerians across ethnic, religious, and political divides.
According to a statement made available to ait.live at the end of the meeting notes that, further consultations will determine the structure, modalities, and a consensus presidential candidate, which will be officially announced four weeks before the 2027 presidential election.
The candidates demanded the immediate release of political prisoners, such as Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and Bichia Maisango, a prominent figure advocating for Hausa Zalla cultural rights and demanded a halt to the ongoing political persecution of AAC presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore.
The leaders condemned the current administration’s anti-people policies, arguing that fuel subsidy removal and currency devaluation have severely escalated economic hardship in the country.
The opposition Presidential Candidates urged a comprehensive policy review focused on protecting ordinary citizens and raising workers’ salaries toward a genuine living wage.
On matters bordering on security, they raised the alarm over escalating terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and other violent crimes across Nigeria.
They harped for a proactive national security strategy which should leverage on intelligence gathering , technology, community cooperation, adequately equipped security forces, and the effective prosecution of offenders.
Rejecting what they termed the political monopolization and suppression of the opposition, the leaders called on the international community to monitor Nigeria’s democratic trajectory under the President Tinubu-led APC government.
Gbenga Hashim, Omoyele Sowore, and Adewole Adebayo reaffirmed their joint commitment to building a Nigeria where no ethnic group or social class feels permanently excluded from political participation.
They urged Nigerians to resist state capture, defend the integrity of the constitution, and courageously uphold multi-party democracy through peaceful means.
