The Zamfara State Police Command has confirmed the detonation of a suspected landmine along the Kaura Namoda-Moriki Road, with no casualties recorded.
In a statement issued on August 17, 2026, the Command’s spokesperson, Yazid Abubakar, said police received credible intelligence at about 2:30 p.m. that armed bandits had planted suspected Improvised Explosive Devices, IEDs, along the road.
According to the statement, one of the devices detonated after a vehicle reportedly drove over it. However, no casualty was recorded.
Following the incident, a combined team of the Police Vehicle Crime Response Unit, VCRU, operatives, and Explosive Ordnance Disposal, EOD, personnel was immediately deployed to the scene.

The personnel confirmed that the detonated device was locally fabricated. They subsequently conducted a comprehensive search of the surrounding areas, successfully swept the road, and declared it safe for motorists.
To further enhance safety and ease movement, potholes along the affected portion of the road were filled with cement, allowing normal vehicular movement to resume.
The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Bello, has urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly provide credible information on suspicious activities.
He also advised motorists and residents not to touch or tamper with any suspected explosive device but to immediately alert security personnel.
