As Nigeria joins the rest of the world to commemorate International Youth Day, the Nigeria Police Force has taken the campaign to the grassroots, with a special Police Youth Day initiative aimed at sensitizing young Nigerians against violence, thuggery and other activities capable of threatening the peace ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In Ogun State, the commemoration began with a five-kilometre awareness walk from the MKO Abiola Stadium in Kuto, Abeokuta, to the Officers’ Mess in GRA, Ibara.
Leading the walk was the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, alongside personnel and representatives of the Nigeria Army, NDLEA, FRSC, Correctional Service, Amotekun Corps, NYSC, Police Community Relations Committee and the State Youth Council.
The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, urged Nigerian youths to reject violence and political thuggery, stressing that young people have a critical role to play in building a peaceful and prosperous nation.

The Ogun State Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Rabbi Tijjani, therefore appealed to youths to stay away from illicit drugs, particularly as political activities begin to gather momentum ahead of the 2027 elections.
Beyond the physical exercise, the organisers say the message is clear: Nigerian youths must reject violence, refuse to be used as instruments of political disruption, and channel their energy into productive activities that will strengthen democracy and national development.
