The Nigerian Air Force is urging its personnel to make their homes safe places of peace, not fear.
The call came at the end of a three-day family summit held at the 455 bases services group in Kano, where personnel and their families were reminded that crime, violence and abuse have no place in the home as security families.
For three days, spouses and children of Nigerian Air Force personnel were given practical lessons on entrepreneurship, useful skills, financial management, mental health and raising responsible children.
But beyond the lessons, the summit also focused on something closer to home — building families where spouses and children feel safe, respected and valued.
At the closing ceremony, the Commander of the Base, Group Captain Mohammed Borgu, charged personnel to uphold the standards expected of them both at work and at home, especially on living as responsible parents.
The commander also urged couples to resolve disagreements peacefully and protect the values of the family
The priest in charge of the Catholic Chaplaincy and the Imam of the NAF Mosque took turns addressing the sensitive issue of domestic violence as they reminded participants of the sacredness of the family.
Financial and health experts also advised personnel to prepare early for life after service by developing a strong saving culture.
They stressed the importance of paying attention to mental health, particularly in managing the pressures.
