Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has congratulated Edo people at home and in the diaspora on the 35th anniversary of the state’s creation, describing the milestone as a celebration of unity, resilience and shared progress.
Marking the anniversary, Okpebholo reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to accelerating development through the SHINE Agenda, while acknowledging the contributions of previous administrations, traditional institutions, the private sector and other stakeholders to the state’s growth.
The governor said his administration was strengthening security collaboration to tackle crime while prioritising healthcare through the upgrading of facilities and training of health workers, particularly at the primary healthcare level. He also highlighted increased funding for Ambrose Alli University and Edo State University, alongside the ongoing recruitment of teachers to address manpower shortages in public schools.
On infrastructure, Okpebholo said road rehabilitation was ongoing across the state, with work progressing on the Ikpoba Hill and Sapele Road flyovers in Benin City, as well as urban renewal projects aimed at improving major cities and communities.
The governor also identified energy as a key driver of industrialisation, citing the 100-megawatt power project at Ologbo and related infrastructure at the Taihu Industrial Park. He said the projects would improve electricity supply, attract investment, support businesses and create employment opportunities.
Okpebholo described Edo’s 35 years as both an achievement and a responsibility, urging citizens to remain united and committed to the state’s development. He said the future of Edo depends on collective action that translates the state’s potential into tangible improvements in the lives of its people.
