The Nigerian Army has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting Nigeria’s democracy and ensuring a peaceful and credible 2027 general election.
The Army says its personnel will remain professional, politically neutral and guided by the Constitution and other laws governing the conduct of elections in the country.
This was the thrust of a one-day sensitisation seminar organised to educate military personnel on their constitutional responsibilities during the 2027 elections.
The Nigerian Army is strengthening the capacity of its personnel to understand and operate within the limits of their constitutional responsibilities during the electoral process ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The one-day sensitisation seminar, held at the instance of the Chief of Army Staff, brought together personnel of the Nigerian Army and representatives of sister security agencies.
The seminar focused on the conduct expected of military personnel before, during and after the elections, with emphasis on professionalism, neutrality, respect for human rights and strict adherence to the rule of law.
In his address, the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, having retired from the Nigerian Army as a Colonel, spoke on the constitutional responsibilities of the military and the need for personnel to remain professional and disciplined while discharging their duties.
As Nigeria prepares for the 2027 general elections, the message from the security establishment remains clear: professionalism, neutrality and respect for the Constitution must guide the conduct of personnel deployed for election duties.
