The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC says only those who voted in the 2019 election will be allowed to participate in the Jos North-Bassa Federal Constituency bye-election slated for Saturday, February 26, 2022.
Plateau State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Halilu Pai made the disclosure during stakeholders meeting held at the INEC Head Office in Jos, North-Central Nigeria. The Commission has however registered some new voters since 2019 who should vote in the bye-election if they had their permanent voter cards.
As the date for the much awaited bye-election approaches, preparations are on top gear by the election management body to ensure that the exercise is free, fair and credible including meetings with stakeholders such as security, political parties and traditional rulers among others.
Pai also confirmed that sensitive election materials have already been delivered to the State for the election.

The Police on their part say they will beef up security in the two affected local governments with a warning to political parties to desist from acts capable of undermining the process. The traditional rulers and political parties also pledged their commitment towards a hitch-free exercise.
The Jos North-Bassa Federal Constituency of Plateau North has been without a representative at the National Assembly following the death of Haruna Maital. A total of 14 political parties are participating in the up coming bye-election.
