Sultan of Sokoto urges Nigerians to promote religious values

Nigerians have been urged to rededicate themselves towards worshipping God, as a solution to address the current challenges bedevilling the country.

The call was made by the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar II, during the opening ceremony of the National Qur’anic recitation competition, held in Bauchi State, northeast Nigeria.

The 36th National Qur’anic Recitation Competition was declared open in Bauchi, with many contestants from across the country in attendance

It was organized by the National Qur’anic Recitation Competition Centre, of the Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto, and hosted by the Bauchi State Government.

The President-general, National Supreme Council Of Islamic Affairs, Sultan of Sokoto, represented by the Shehu of Borno and other renowned Islamic scholars, used the occasion to call on Nigerians, to return to God, and seek his Divine intervention, to overcome the ugly happenings, that bring setbacks to the socio-economic growth and development of the nation.

Bauchi State governor, represented by his deputy, Baba Tela, commended the organizers for choosing Bauchi to host the event.

He said his administration will continue to accord religious knowledge the attention it deserves, for societal reorientation and development.

He lamented the way people prioritize western education against religious knowledge, that aid in shaping moral conduct and promoting societal values.

The 2022 National Qur’anic Recitation Competition will run from the eighteenth to the twenty-sixth of this month.
