Delta state governor Senator Ifeanyi Okowa has waded into the school fees controversy at Delta State University, Abraka and directed management of the university to liase with students’ union and fashion out ways to bring down the fees to an acceptable level.
Governor Okowa’s intervention came when he embarked on inspection tour of ongoing works at the University of Delta, Agbor and the trauma center, Agbor where he made it clear that the state government was not instrumental to the school fees increase but is intervening considering the current hardship in the country.
Governor Okowa explained that students of Delta origin are exempted from paying tuition but only for other development levies.
He called on the people to Show understanding with the government adding that there is no way school fees could remain the same over the years.

The governor said by upgrading some of the states higher institutions, his government took that critical decisions in the best interest of the state to enable average Deltans have access to higher education.
He said the import of maintaining standard is very important as it reduces the incidence of producing half baked graduates that may end up being unable to function outside the institution.
Okowa while inspecting the Trauma Center, a partnership project of the State government and the Central Bank of Nigeria CBN said the provision of fencing, two buildings including mortuary and the intensive care unit by the CBN would complement what the state government had done.
The governor was accompanied by the the Vice Chancellor Professor Stella Chiemeke and members of the University Governing Council.
