The minister explained that the deep sea port has the capacity to turn Nigeria into a shipping hub, as well as create employment opportunities among others.

So far about one point five billion US dollars he noted has been invested on fixed assets while additional eight hundred million US dollars invested on construction works at the seaport adding that the project’s aggregate impact is put at three hundred and sixty one billion US dollars for Forty five years which will cover over two hundred times the construction cost of the seaport.

Other benefits he stressed is that Nigeria through this project will reassert it’s position in the Maritime business which it lost to ports in Togo,Cote d’Ivoire and Ghana.

Nigeria can take advantage of the implementation of the African free Trade Agreement ( AfCFTA) as the country will become a transhipment hub ,generating more revenue into the coffers of the Federal government.

The Managing Director of the Lekki Deep seaport, Du Ruogang in his remarks explained that the port is eighty nine percent complete. He however assured the information minister that port operations at Lekki will commence before the end of 2022 adding that the second phase of construction work will start soon.
