Amnesty International Nigeria(AI) has threatened to drag authorities of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja to the African Commission on Human and Peoples Rights for Justice over the demolition of communities in Durumi.

Country Director, Amnesty International Nigeria, Osai Ojigho, stated this when he briefed journalists in Abuja on the forced eviction on Thursday.

Durumi 3 in Gudu District of the Federal Capital Territory(FCT) is one of the areas affected by the ongoing demolition by the FCT Joint Taskforce on city sanitation.

Bulldozers from the Federal Capital Development Agency (FCDA) recently moved into the community; pulling down structures and leaving many inhabitants homeless with no means of livelihoods.

The taskforce, led by a Special Adviser to the FCT Minister, Ikharo Attah, stormed the community against subsisting court order not to embark on the demolition exercise.

A few of those affected who spoke to AIT said the action of FCT administration has left them completely dislocated and will stop at nothing to seek redress.

Amnesty International Nigeria said it is currently in talks with relevant authorities on the matter as it sought for justice for those affected.
