There seems to be an end in sight to the frequent clashes between farmers and herdsmen as some State Governments in Northern Nigeria appear to have come to terms with the need to adopt global best practices in animal husbandry.

The latest to key into the widely canvassed ranching initiative is the Government of Kano State in North-West Nigeria which has indicated interest to partner with China’s Fujian province to promote industrialisation and revolutionise the State’s agriculture sector

Governor Abdullahi Ganduje disclosed this during the China-Nigeria Business Dialogue where deliberations focused on ways of leveraging bilateral Cooperation in promoting global development.

Governor Ganduje believes that the proposed partnership between Kano State and the Fujian province, which is the commercial hub of China, will be mutually beneficial, especially in the area of ranching, which according to him will discourage movement of herdsmen from one state to another, thereby reducing herdsmen-farmers clashes.

The Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Cui Jianchun, welcomes the partnership, saying it aims at prioritising areas of trade and investment and to strengthen ties with Nigeria at all levels of government.

The dialogue featured high level discussions at the ministerial level by officials from the International Development Department of the Central Working Committee of the Communist Party of China(CPC), National Working Committee of Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Fujian Province of China.

National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Iyiola Omisore, said the CPC of China and the APC are working on party engagements to improve relations on politics, business and governance, adding that Nigeria is striving to improve its non-oil exports, which index is not good enough at the moment.
