Abducted Medical Students: Police Commissioner leads rescue operation, as IGP’s squad Benue

Police in Benue State say a tactical squad from the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun has arrived to carry out rescue operations of the abducted catholic medical students.

State Police Command Public Relations Officer officer Sewuese Anene who disclosed this to ait.live said the team will join the command’s intelligence team already on ground and have been deployed to Otukpo for the rescue operations.

Anene also said the State Commissioner of Police, Hassan Yabanet led the team to Otukpo
20 medical students of the University of Maiduguri and University of Jos and a House Officer who were kidnapped on Thursday evening along Otukpo- Enugu Highway.

Reports say their abductors used one of them to make a N50 million ransom demand.

One of the students, Kwaghaondo Aondona Kingsley posted a message on his X account. 

“We were kidnapped on our way to Enugu for a convention.

They are requesting 50 million naira for the 20 of us medical students. 

Please help us; we haven’t eaten for two days. Contact Pius at 08163420157—he is coordinating the funds,”
“They said they would start killing us tomorrow,”He tweeted.

The police command however denied knowledge of the N50 million ransom demand.
