Abia Governor Says Drugs Use Among Youths Inimical To Development

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti has identified substance and drugs abuse among youths as a major challenge to the development and progress of Nigeria.

Governor Otti said this at the week long National Convention of the Nigeria student Nurses and midwives Association which held in Umuahia the Abia State capital.

Drugs and Substance Use among youths in Nigeria has become critical and a pressing issue affecting not just the immediate community and state but the entire country.

In his message at the occasion, Abia state governor, Alex Otti, said the youths who are meant to be the leaders of tomorrow are falling prey to the harmful effects of drugs addiction.

National President of the Nigerian Association of Student Nurses and Midwives, Ogbonna Gabriel, says the association is embarking on sensitization campaigns to educate young people on the dangers posed by indiscriminate use of drugs and other substances.

The theme of this year’s convention is: ” promoting awareness of the role of student Nurses and Midwives in strengthening Nigeria’s health care workforce.”
