Health authorities in Abia State have confirmed that Monkeypox disease has been detected in Isialangwa Local Government Area of the South East Nigeria, region.
The State Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, who briefed Journalists in Umuahia after the weekly Executive Council meeting said out of 13 suspected cases, one came out positive, nine were reported negative, and three are yet to be certified, with no death
The Special Adviser to the gyovernor on Health, Ngozi Azodo, further explained that a Steering Committee has been set up and the Ministry of Health is working in synergy with the Ministries of the Environment, to tackle the infectious diseases.
She also advised residents especially farmers to minimize contact with animals and promptly report any suspected case as the State government is ready to deal with possible outbreak of the disease.
