Defence Headquarters says troops have neutralised scores of terrorist leaders and arrested over 274 insurgents in the first quarter of 2026.

Director of Defence Media Operations, Major-General Michael Onoja, who disclosed this at the monthly media briefing in Abuja, said the Defence Headquarters also rescued over 164 kidnapped victims and facilitated the surrender of about 90 terrorists and their families.

Major General Onoja, says the Nigerian military has recorded significant successes in the fight against insurgency in recent months, despite attacks on military formations.

He explained that international rules of engagement will continue to guide the conduct of all military operations across the country.

Coordinator of Operation Safe Corridor, Brigadier-General Yusuf Ali, says plans are underway to reintegrate some deradicalised insurgents back into society.

The Nigerian military also called on Nigerians to support security agencies in the ongoing fight against insurgency.
